1️⃣
Mo Khazali - Understanding the New Event Loop in React Native
If you’re a seasoned React Native developer, you may have been burned by the fact that certain React behaviours just don’t work as you’d expect. We’ve all tried to use useLayoutEffect on our RN projects, only to find that it doesn’t quite behave how the React docs describe it.
All of that will change with the new event loop coming to React Native as part of the effort to bring React Native closer to Web APIs.
2️⃣
Peter Piekarczyk - Optimistic UI, Pessimistic Devs and working with React Query
React Query is an incredible library, but when used in React Native, there are a few gotchas that can impact performance and user experience. In this talk, I’ll share my journey of making the most of React Query in a mobile environment—where network conditions are unpredictable and performance is key. We’ll explore how to reuse queries efficiently across components to reduce unnecessary renders. I’ll also dive into what data should live on the client vs. what should be offloaded to the server, using APIs like Cloudflare or server rendering. Beyond that, we’ll discuss managing real-time updates with WebSockets, striking the right balance between live data and cached results. Plus, I’ll cover what belongs in the cache (and what doesn’t) and highlight common footguns that could trip you up in production.Whether you’re new to React Query or already using it, you’ll walk away with practical insights to improve performance, simplify your data management, and avoid common mistakes in your React Native apps!
Our team of 50+ agile web, mobile and software experts are based in Soho Square, London with offices in Paris and New York.
Over the last 10 years and across over 500 projects, we have partnered with non-technical founders to launch their first product, FTSE 100 companies to increase market share through launching internal startups & spearheading digital transformation initiatives, and SME CTOs to build and scale their technical teams.
Theodo projects start fast, and progress even faster, with our unique methodology combining agile, lean and DevOps allowing us to build more efficiently as the project progresses. We are experts at React Native, Serverless, React, Django/Python, Node.js and Symfony, with experience in many other frameworks.
